THURSDAY NIGHT BETS
Thursday, Nov 10th
Tulsa @ Memphis (-6.5)
7:30 PM
This line is fair. Memphis’s consistency this year has provided some good betting opportunities. This matchup is not one of them. The Tigers have a really solid offense, so does Tulsa. Quarterback Davis Brin puts up good passing stats and can engineer lots of scoring drives. That alone makes this game difficult to handicap. Perhaps coach Philip Montgomery is losing his team; the Golden Hurricane looked flat for a large part of the Tulane loss at home last week. That should have been a big game. So, if you think Tulsa is quitting on the year go ahead and take the points. However, the mix of Tulsa’s strong offense with their constant losing plus a solid number being offered makes this game not a great betting opportunity. The Play: Pass
Georgia Southern @ Louisiana (-3.5)
7:30 PM
Georgia Southern blew a double digit lead against the spread at home last week as an underdog against South Alabama. Georgia Southern is a really tough out at home and had a chance at a nice win but was shut out in the fourth quarter. That is truly disappointing. Still, Eagles’ quarterback Kyle Vantrease puts up serious passing yards and should be able to move the ball against Louisiana. Do not be shocked if he throws a pick or two though. Louisiana still has come nowhere close to matching its performance level of the last few years. The Ragin’ Cajuns are a decent squad but are unlikely to play as well as they did under Billy Napier. Louisiana favoritism here is fair, but Georgia Southern is good enough to win the game or at least bring it down to a last minute drive. Therefore, plus-3.5 is a nice bet to grab if you can. The facts that Vantrease is interception prone and the let down of last week makes this only worthy of a small bet. The Play: GA Southern+3.5 (1 unit)
