UPDATED POWER RANKINGS
This Week saw the most change in rankings so far this season. Ohio State stays in the top spot, but Georgia has tied them in terms of rating. The Buckeyes came very close to dropping behind the Bulldogs. Meanwhile, Alabama traded places with Georgia. The Tide finally moved down after losing at LSU. Still, the road loss by a two point conversion was not enough to cause the marked fall Alabama has suffered in the traditional polls. Worry not 'Bama fans; the Tide have a lot of losing to do before becoming just another team. Tennessee remains in fourth after the not so surprising loss at Georgia. The SEC can still get two teams into the playoff if both Georgia and the Vols win out.
Just outside the top 4 is Michigan. The Wolverines are on a collision course for another undefeated matchup against Ohio State; this time in Columbus. A significant upgrade will be in order with a win there. USC remains in sixth but probably needs the defense to get some stops or this could be the ceiling for 2022. Clemson surprisingly stays in the seventh spot despite a convincing loss. The Tigers reamins unbeaten in conference play and are still the favorite to win the ACC. LSU moved up thirteen spots after a great performance. The Tigers now have the direct route to a two loss SEC championship. Oregon rounds out the top ten after falling to tenth only because the Ducks got jumped by LSU.
Not much else changed in the top 25 save the additions of FSU, Notre Dame, and Oregon State.
Other notable moves: The ratings finally reflect a relatively lower level of performance by Texas A&M. Sometimes the numbers are slow to react. Tulane continues a slow but steady climb up the rankings. The Green Wave have reached their highest performance level in years. OK State continues faltering without a healthy passer, but could move right back up the rankings with a fully available roster. South Carolina dropped almost ten spots to a more recognizable level. NC State climbed after getting some better play since the loss of the starting quarterback. Liberty skyrocketed through the ranks due to a massive road win against SEC opposition. Hugh Freeze truly is an amazing coach. Bitter rivals, Missouri and Kansas, join the top 50. Ceilings appear close. Appalachian State and Air Force fell to levels which put them firmly outside the consideration of year's best G5 school. Pat Fitzgerald guided Northwestern to its top performance of the season. Despite seemingly never beating Ohio State, Fitzgerald often gets his team to perform admirably against the Buckeyes. Arizona continues a gradual season long trend upwards. So does Duke. Stanford dropped significantly; David Shaw must have the Stanford administration in love with his past successes. Central Michigan finally appeared to have reclaimed last year's level of play. The Chips notched a nice win in MACtion. Meanwhile, Northern Illinois is nothing when quarterback Rocky Lombardi is out. South Florida showed that its defense still stinks when it got throttled by the awful, but improving, Temple Owls. The Bulls still have zero FBS wins in 2022. Tim Lester seems to have lost his team at Western Michigan. They are performing well below typical levels. Temple has escaped the conversation of worst team in FBS. The bottom four of Hawai'i, NMSU, FIU, and UMass remains unchanged.
The following rankings reflect power ratings. The ratings are updated every week to reflect each team's performance against both its on-field opponent and the betting spread, or line.
