Bowling Green @ Toledo (-17)
7:00 PM
Laying big favorites is a tough task when the team giving points is not elite. The favorite needs to be vastly superior to the underdog once a spread eclipses two full scores. Otherwise, the underdog really needs to be a cellar dweller to justify laying the points. Toledo has played somewhat consistently with preseason expectations. However, the offense has failed to fire as much as anticipated. Sure, Jason Candle is among the top coaches in the MAC. But Laying this many points is not a great bet when the favorite is not elite. Still, Bowling Green finds itself on the cusp of bowl eligibility. The Falcons have beaten lesser competition and caught a few teams at the perfect times. An experienced passer and a competent coach make Bowling Green more than just a blip Toledo can look past. For that reason, Toledo can only be a small wager or a pass. The play: Toledo-17 (1 unit)
Ohio @ Ball State (+3.5)
7:00 PM
Teams with improving form either reach their ceiling and then fall flat or keep rising to surpass expectations and form a new ceiling. Ball State has played above expectations the last two weeks. Will the Cardinals fall flat against Ohio or make a new ceiling? Short home underdogs often play much better than their usual level and often offer excellent betting value. Ohio was the worst team in the MAC besides Akron and Bowling Green during the middle of the season. However, the Bobcats have improved tremendously during MACtion the last several weeks. Still, being favored by over a field goal on the road on a Tuesday is a lofty bar. Ohio may run away with this behind improving quarterback Kurtis Rourke, but the Bobcats are not the team to bet here. Ball State offers value. The recent volatility of these teams prevents a serious wager. Some consistency goes a long way in relying on a team. The play: Ball State+3.5 (1 unit)
