        One thing first before we get into the week's wagers: Remember that looking for spreads that offer the best value to bet are the way to approach college football wagering. Traditional handicapping can only get a bettor so far. Too many bettors waste time staring at stats, schedules, rankings, "expert" picks, etc. Finding good spreads to bet in good spots with reliable teams is the best way to make money betting sports. When you have an edge, use it to the fullest extent. Now, on to Week 8 games scheduled for Wednesday through Friday.

Wednesday, Oct 19th

Georgia State @ Appalachian State (-9.5)

7:30 PM


Georgia State has an offense that is good for betting on but its defense is lacking. Appalachian State is off of a bye and has had a roller coaster season so far. Their power rating has followed suit and relying on it might lead to losing wagers. Both squads feature decent to good coaching. Neither team has an edge against the spread significant enough to warrant a bet and the spread is fair as of writing. The play: Pass

Thursday, Oct 20th

Virginia @ Georgia Tech (-3)

7:30 PM


Virginia no longer has the offense to take points for granted. Quarterback Brennan Armstrong is nowhere near the production he put up the last two years under Bronco Mendenhall. Now, Tony Elliott is the head coach and the offense struggles to score 20 per game. Still, the Cavaliers are nearing their low point and Georgia Tech is a slight drop in class. The Yellowjackets have improved dramatically since the firing of Geoff Collins and are performing to a level that was expected prior to the season. The game should be closer to pick but the Virginia offense leaves bettors less than confident. Therefore, only the smallest of wagers should be made. The play: UVA+3 (1 unit)


Troy @ South Alabama (-3)

7:30 PM


Troy and South Alabama are both surprising the Sun Belt with better than expected performances this year. Jon Sumrall and Kane Wommack have done splendidly so far in 2022. Both teams have followed similar trajectories and their ratings likewise have gone up significantly since the start of the season. A field goal spread is fair and there is little value to be had betting either side in Week 8. However, this game should be watched to gauge the true power of each team. The play: Pass

Friday, Oct 21st


Tulsa @ Temple (+13)

7:30 PM


Double digit road favorites are poor bets, unless they are of the elite quality or the home team is near the bottom of its conference or in FBS. Most bad teams are not as bad as the public thinks and are generally much closer in power to their favored visiting opponent. Still, a blind fade of the underdog can occasionally be made when a team is noticeably and obviously awful. Though, the spread must still provide value. Temple is abysmal this season. The Owls allowed UCF to score 70 points last week. Temple competed for a half and then seemed to quit as soon as UCF figured out to simply attack Temple’s defense with simple plays. Meanwhile, Tulsa is playing well below its typical power level under coach Philip Montgomery. The Golden Hurricane have a competent quarterback but not much else. Tulsa is off a bye but had a shockingly bad performance against a resurgent Navy team in Week 6. The spread is fair and there are better games to bet this week. The play: Pass 



UAB @ Western Kentucky (-2.5)

8:00 PM 


UAB spent the first three quarters in Week 7 looking ahead to this matchup. The Blazers were able to run away from Charlotte at the end of last week’s game but failed to cover the fairly large spread of 23.5. Western Kentucky looked fantastic against the up and down Middle Tennessee. The spread is dead on in this game and the result could come down to one play. That is the type of luck that makes betting some games foolish. The play: Pass

  This Week saw the most change in rankings so far this season. Ohio State stays in the top spot, but Georgia has tied them in terms of rating. The Buckeyes came very close to dropping behind the Bulldogs. Meanwhile, Alabama traded places with Georgia. The Tide finally moved down after losing at LSU. Still, the road loss by a two point conversion was not enough to cause the marked fall Alabama has suffered in the traditional polls. Worry not 'Bama fans; the Tide have a lot of losing to do before becoming just another team. Tennessee remains in fourth after the not so surprising loss at Georgia. The SEC can still get two teams into the playoff if both Georgia and the Vols win out.  Just outside the top 4 is Michigan. The Wolverines are on a collision course for another undefeated matchup against Ohio State; this time in Columbus. A significant upgrade will be in order with a win there. The favorite needs to be vastly superior to the underdog once a spread eclipses two full scores. Otherwise, the underdog really needs to be a cellar dweller to justify laying the points. Toledo has played somewhat consistently with preseason expectations. However, the offense has failed to fire as much as anticipated. Sure, Jason Candle is among the top coaches in the MAC. But Laying this many points is not a great bet when the favorite is not elite. Still, Bowling Green finds itself on the cusp of bowl eligibility.   Wednesday, Nov 9 th Buffalo @ Central Michigan (-2.5) 7:00 PM Central Michigan is playing like a new team now that star running back Lew Nichols is back. The Chips have actually been able to move the ball allowing Jim McElwain to use the full playbook and make an actual game plan. Buffalo came back to earth after losing at Ohio last week. Yes, the Bulls are playing better than expected. However, it appears Buffalo reached its ceiling for the year. We should find out tonight. Central Michigan at its worst could beat Buffalo this season. Catching this spread prior to some drastic line movement would have made it a full play. However, it is pretty close to accurate at minus-2.5. The Play: CMU-2.5 (1 unit) Kent State @ Bowling Green (+2.5) 7:00 PM Kent State does not have a terrible loss this season.
